Olympus OS

Olympus OS is a private home system that one household runs on its own computers at home. It looks after the house's network and backups, and it prepares a short daily brief for the adults who live there.

It is not a product or a public service. Nobody outside the household can sign up for it or use it.

What it does

How it uses Google

Olympus has its own Google account. It never signs in as anyone in the family. Family members decide which of their calendars to share with that account, read-only, and can stop sharing at any time.

Google permission See your calendars (calendar.readonly). This is the only permission Olympus asks for. If Google ever returned a token with any other permission, Olympus would refuse to use it.
What it reads The names of the calendars shared with its account, and the start time, end time and title of their upcoming events, at most 31 days ahead. It ignores descriptions, locations, guests and meeting links.
Why To put the day's schedule in the household's brief.
What it can't do Change or delete any calendar or event, read email, open files, or see anything that isn't shared with its account.

The privacy policy explains where this data is kept and who can see it.

Planned, not in use

A later version is planned to show its own events on the family's wall calendar. To do that it would ask Google for two more permissions: to create one calendar of its own and add events to it, and to send email to the family's own photo frame. It doesn't ask for either today. This page and the privacy policy will be updated before it does.
